Who are Capita Hartshead Tracing Solutions?

Capita Hartshead Tracing Solutions (CHTS) is a tracing agency that specialises in tracing missing or gone away policy holders of investment products and reunites them with their rightful assets. The Children's Mutual has asked them to find and contact customers who have a matured policy but haven't claimed the money.

What are dividends?

A dividend is a portion of a company's earnings that is returned to shareholders. <

What is an unclaimed dividend?

An unclaimed dividend is one which has been issued by National Grid plc as a cheque but which has not been cashed.

Why do I have unclaimed dividends?

You may have moved, changed your name (for example; by marriage) or simply misplaced or not cashed the cheque(s) sent by National Grid plc.

I have never had shares in National Grid plc, why have you contacted me?

National Grid plc was formed after a number of mergers and de-mergers. In 1997 British Gas de-merged and renamed BG plc The National Grid Group was formed in 1997 from the Regional Electricity Companies In 2000 BG plc de-merged to form the Lattice Group plc In 2002 the National Grid Group and Lattice Group merged to form National Grid Transco plc In 2005 National Grid Transco was renamed National Grid plc If you had shares in any of the above companies you are likely to be a National Grid plc shareholder.

How were you able to contact/find me?

We used specialised tracing tools to link the address available on the share register to your current address.

Who must sign the claim form?

All shareholders named on the account must sign including joint holders indicated on the top right of the claim form

I am not the first named shareholder; can I claim the outstanding dividends?

Dividends can only be paid to the first named shareholder.

I am a joint shareholder; to whom will the outstanding dividends be sent?

All outstanding dividends will be sent to the first named shareholder but all joint shareholders will need to sign the claim form

What do I do if the shareholder is deceased? (SOLE HOLDING)

We require an original or sealed copy of the Grant of Probate, Letters of Administration, Scottish Confirmation or completion of a Small Estates form. The Executor(s) of the Estate can claim the unclaimed dividends and will need to complete the claim form.

What do I do if the shareholder is deceased? (JOINT HOLDING)

We require the death certificate. The additional shareholders will need to complete the claim form and we will then be able to issue the unclaimed dividends.

What is a Small Estate?

If the Estate is less than £20,000 and the value of the shares less than £10,000 then you may be able use our small estates procedure. This procedure should only be used if a Grant of Probate, Letters of Administration or Certificate of Confirmation has not been received or applied for.

What do I need to do if I have changed my name?

Please complete section 4 on the claim form. In addition to the documents above, please send one of the following:

  • a certified copy of your Marriage Certificate
  • Deed Poll
  • Statutory Declaration or, in the case of divorce, a copy of the Decree Absolute and Birth Certificate showing your maiden name

What happens if I don't claim my dividends?

After 12 years National Grid plc has the right to reclaim unclaimed dividend payments.

I received my dividend cheque but it has expired, what do I do?

Our service can help you reclaim the dividend cheques that we have identified. If you choose to use our service to release your entitlement we will require the signed claim form and any documentation paperwork required.

What type of identification documents do I need to send to Capita Hartshead Tracing Solutions?

  • As evidence of your current address, any one of the following:
  • Bank statement
  • Utilities bill (mobile phone bills are not acceptable)
  • Council tax bill (valid for the current year)
  • A solicitor's letter confirming a recent house purchase or land registry confirmation
  • A local council rent card or tenancy agreement
  • Inland Revenue correspondence addressed to you.
  • Please note: The above documentation you send must be an originals that has been issued in the last 3 months.

As evidence of your identity:

  • Current  UK Driving Licence ('old style' full licence or new photo card licence - 'old style' provisional licences are not acceptable)
  • EEA Member State Identity Card or Northern Ireland Voters Card that contains your address
  • Benefits book or original notification from the Benefits Agency confirming the rights to benefits or
  • Inland Revenue correspondence addressed to you.

Please note:  Photocopies of these documents will be acceptable provided that they are certified as a genuine copy of the original by any of the following: a UK Lawyer, professionally qualified Accountant, Doctor of Medicine, Bank Official, Government Official, Schoolteacher, Minister of Religion or Authorised Financial Intermediary (you cannot certify copies of documents on your own behalf or submit copies of previously certified copies).

Please ask the person(s) who certifies your documents to supply contact details. If possible, certification should be accompanied by an impression of a stamp and a dated, written statement on the copy document that the original has been seen.

In the case of documents bearing a photograph, the person certifying the copy should confirm in writing that the photograph is a true likeness of you.

We do not recommend that original Driving Licences, Identity Cards, Passports, Benefits Books, Marriage Certificates or the like are submitted.

All documents are sent at your risk. Capita Hartshead Tracing Solutions will use reasonable efforts to ensure they return all documents received in respect of claims but cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage.

How long would it take to process my claim?

It will take up to 30 working days, from acceptance of your claim to obtain your dividend payments and send you the cheque. Prior to acceptance, there may be some delay if the form has been incorrectly completed or relevant documentation is missing. We are happy to check those details over the telephone to ensure that there is no delay in accepting your claim
